What is 8mm kurz?

8mm Kurz, also known as 7.92x33mm Kurz, is a rifle cartridge developed by Nazi Germany during World War II. It was designed for the Sturmgewehr 44 (StG 44) assault rifle, one of the first assault rifles ever created.

The 8mm Kurz cartridge is shorter, lighter, and less powerful than the standard 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridge used in the Karabiner 98k rifle. This allowed for a more compact and lightweight weapon to be developed, while still providing better performance than a submachine gun.

The 8mm Kurz cartridge has a bullet diameter of 8mm and a case length of 33mm. It typically fires a 125 grain bullet at a velocity of around 2,300 feet per second. Despite its smaller size, the 8mm Kurz cartridge was effective at short to medium ranges and had good stopping power.

After World War II, the 8mm Kurz cartridge was used by several countries, including East Germany, Yugoslavia, and Egypt. Today, it is considered an obsolete cartridge and is no longer widely used in military or civilian firearms.
